1859 Direction Solferino!

Il y a deux jours, l'état major autrichien (Alain et Phil) a décidé du terrain défensif.
Two days ago, the Austrian general staff decided on the defensive terrain.

 

De nombreux hommes ont été envoyés pour contrer l'avance française après Magenta.
Many men were sent to counter the French advance after Magenta.

1859, Napoléon III s'allie avec le roi de Sardaigne Victor Emmanuel II pour libérer

 l'Italie du Nord de la domination autrichienne. Après la bataille surprise de Magenta, 

les Autrichiens de l'empereur François Joseph se replient et tentent de ralentir les Français .

1859, Napoleon III allied with the King of Sardinia Victor Emmanuel II to liberate

  Northern Italy from Austrian domination. After the surprise battle of Magenta,

the Austrians under Emperor Francis Joseph retreated and tried to slow down the French.

Quelques redoutes ont été construites à la hâte, sitôt investies par les canons.
Some redoubts were hastily built, as soon as they are occupied by the cannons.

Bâtiments et murets en pierre abritent rapidement nos bataillons de ligne.
Stone buildings and stone walls quickly shelter our line battalions.

Premier tour, quelques courageux bataillons vont devoir résister à l'avance
française en attendant les renforts...Objectif du jour : la gare!
First round, a few courageous battalions will have to resist the French advance
while waiting for reinforcements...Objective of the day: the station!

Du haut de leurs montures, quelques cavaliers aperçoivent les premières silhouettes...

Garibaldiens et tirailleurs algériens forment les premières lignes des assaillants.

Et bientôt nos avant-postes voient, entendent et subissent les premiers assauts Français.
And soon our outposts saw, heard and suffered the first French assaults.

Tour 5 : les Français avancent mais leurs pertes sont conséquentes...

Nos nuages de Jägers retardent un maximum les fougueux Français.
Our clouds of Jägers delay the fiery French as much as possible.

Mais bientôt la Garde apparait, baïonnettes et moustaches fièrement brandies contre l'ennemi.
But soon the Guard appears, bayonets and mustaches proudly brandished against the enemy.

Nos artilleurs font tomber de nombreux bonnets d'oursons, le sol tremble suite aux
détonations et le photographe de guerre a du mal à faire le point.😏
Our gunners drop many bear hats, the ground shakes from the detonations and
 the war photographer has difficulty getting focus.

Les généraux français (Ronie, Thierry et Christophe) doivent se rendre à l'évidence, la journée sera sanglante.
The French generals (Ronie, Thierry and Christophe) must face the facts, the day will be bloody.

Alors les lignes de la Garde se forment, la victoire, si victoire il y a, sera couteuse...
Then the lines of the Guard are formed, victory, if there is victory, will be costly...

De valeureux dragons autrichiens chargent dans un bruit de tempête,
il faut ébranler la confiance de l'ennemi et gagner du temps.

16h, la fumée envahit le champ de bataille, ajoutant à la confusion des combats.
4 p.m., smoke invades the battlefield, adding to the confusion of the fighting.

Notre cavalerie est décidément courageuse et fougueuse, elle provoque la cavalerie française et bouscule les formations ennemies qui ne s'en remettront pas.
Our cavalry is decidedly courageous and valiant, it provokes the French cavalry and shakes up the enemy formations which will not recover.

Nous avons souffert, mais le drapeau autrichien demeure fièrement brandi dans la gare...
We have suffered, but the Austrian flag remains proudly brandished in the station...

Le rail, qui devient précieux en ce milieu de 19ème siècle, demeure autrichien en ce jour et offre une victoire à l'arrachée à l'Empereur François Joseph...Mais la propagande française tourne déjà dans les rotatives des imprimeries de Paris, et très vite...
