1685...A rampart against the Janissaries... Un rempart contre les Janissaires...

We waited for them in the early morning ...
On les a attendu dès le petit matin...

Depuis notre double rangée de fortifications.
From our double row of fortifications.

The first line, in front of the walls, to place our guns in an efficient way.

And it takes time, between blessings and slow adjustments of removable shelters ...

In the distance, we heard the first Ottoman waves coming!

Accompanied by  tribes coming from Balkans and south of the Empire, their new allies.

Hello everyone,
Two years after the siege of Vienna, war is raging in Central Europe.
The Turks storm the fortifications won by the Westerners in our last battle.
And the Turks are joined by reinforcements, it gets complicated!
This time I play Western Austrians, Prussians, Hanoverians.
My long-awaited ally is the Polish Serge.
Against us the Sublime Porte is commanded by Christophe and Ronie.

It is in this field of wheat that the first sporadic shots are fired, Prussian skirmishers against Janissaries in scattered formation.

Then  my guns slow down the enemy in a sound of thunder ...

In front of us less artillery units, but more impressive calibers ...

While artillery exchanges  continue, I have the unpleasant surprise to see hordes of Tartars and Turks trying to circumvent my defense.

After 3 turns the situation is clear: the Ottoman army rushes to the gates of the city, objective to win .... the Poles have just been successful in their activation...soon in battle!

💥While waiting for my Polish allies I must launch my Austrian cavalry in the fight.💥

Set back, my Austrian gunners are trying to slow down the enemy's progress ...
On the barricades pressure is terrible, and  some warriors of the Sublime Porte
already cross one shelter in a deafening din!

The long-awaited arrival of my Polish allies ... The time is late, but the breath of wind
fondling their wings and their banners becomes a sweet melody to my ears ...

Because finally the Sipahis, Delhis and Akinjis will turn to another than me!

And they rush on these poor Poles led by the dubious Serge.

Polish cavalry will have to be fast, Janissaries have crossed many barricades,
and some of them even charge of my batteries!

The Caliph's men are getting dangerously close to my ramparts and the Polish horsemen are brave but they do not break through ... the victory 's moving away three turns from the end.

In the evening, Turkish and Polish cavalry have neutralized themselves ... the losses are numerous on both sides ... and the armies are exhausted ...

At the end of the second day, some people see their life ...
Others the striking images of these two battles ...

My militia preserves the draw by closing the gates of the city. The enemy is weakened but close to victory ... Tomorrow maybe he will try an assault? This is an other story!

Merci, thanks, dziękuję, sağol, danke,

Phil.

Just imagine being in the battlefield with thousands (historically probably just hundreds I'm guessing) of horsemen with banners. A reassuring sound for those who are about to go to battle for sure.
