The day before battle, evening. Tracking. This is where we will await them firm foot!
The armored cars will not be too much to support our brave soldiers tomorrow. |
Après une nuit fraîche...After a cold night ...
D Day. Inspection of the defense lines of the 7th Army. The day promises to be hot. |
Austrians, wanting their revenge, are the first to come out of the wood. |
Aerial reconnaissance will soon announce other ennemies to come. |
Today and here! All victory points (villages, hills, forts) belongs to us...for the moment... |
Hello everyone,
October 1914 in Galicia.
The Austro-Hungarians had recently suffered large losses.
Their revenge has come. They are joined by the German South - Army from Carpathian
and by the 9th German Army, came by train from Poland.
Our defensive positions are good, but we are few.
We must boost our troops morale.
Distribution of ammunition ... and vodka by special convoy ... we will need courage! |
Especially against the Germans guns who have just started their work ... |
Turn 3: our villages catch fire quickly, and our advanced positions are defeated. |
Installés derrière quelques buissons, mortier et mitrailleuse russes ralentissent l'ennemi. Installed behind some bushes , Russian mortar and machine gun slow ennemy. |
Cavalry reinforcements on my left side ... at that time, not sure this will become decisive! |
And now the turn of the game. While the battle was indecisive,
we heard loud bangs. But I let you discover a period film (mute)
with one of my ancestors named Philipevitch, recounting that fateful moment!
Le voilà, ce tonnerre de Galicie... Here it is, the thunder of Galicia... |
On a bien essayé de répondre... We tried to answer ... |
But even under our artillery fire, avoiding the shell holes, the Germans are progressing ... |
Tout comme les Austro-Hongrois... As well as the Austro-Hungarians... |
C'est quand on a commencé à distinguer leur moustache qu'on a su qu'ils étaient trop près! That's when we started to distinguish their mustaches we knew they were too close! |
The villages on fire, we still hold the draw ... but for how long? |
Courageusement. Désespérément. The center is in danger, I choose this moment to charge. Courageously. Desperately. |
This is serious ... Let's put our lives in the hands of Almighty God! |
But prayers are not always enough ...I let Philipevitch finish this story...
But prayers are not always enough ...I let Philipevitch finish this story...
Décimée notre cavalerie après rares quelques corps à corps gagnés... Decimated is our cavalry after some rare melees won... |
Submerged is our right wing which recoils under the onslaught of the Germans! |
Ruined is our general, who finally gave the order to retreat ... |
Indisputable victory of the Central Powers ...
We will have to find other ways to defend ourselves if the war drags on ...
Indisputable victory of the Central Powers ...
We will have to find other ways to defend ourselves if the war drags on ...
Notes :
Notes:
- This battle is a what-if, the junction of the Austro-German armies did not take place.
- The Russian reconnaissance aircraft might have been in 1916 more than 1914.
- And speaking of 1916, 100 years ago to the day, they were not kidding near Verdun ...
I'll end with a field of poppies in their memory ...
1916...2016... |
Merci à tous, thanks everyone, danke an alle, köszönöm az összes,
Phil
And welcome to Bartek and Arek!
Great looking WWI collection! Awesome painted figures - I like the Train model(s) and your black/white "Big Guns" firing gif photo! :o)

RépondreSupprimerGlad you enjoyed, thanks!
SupprimerJust brilliant! Your batreps are always superb but I especially love the variety of terrain and figures of this one!
RépondreSupprimerCheers Gordon!
SupprimerWow. Once wargamers became fine modelers and game no more. You risk this dead end by putting on one of the most amazing web After Action Reports with humor and technology ...and yet somehow find time to also paint diverse collections of troops AND play games! My only question, do you not need to sleep?
RépondreSupprimerI knew I forgot something! No, be reassured, I sleep sometimes...In fact, most of the figures and terrain elements have been painted by Christopher (HE needs to sleep!), I only made the report! Well, I have played the game also...Many thanks for your sweet comment Bill, many thanks...
SupprimerBeautiful. Simply beautiful. Never was a more costly and counterproductive war fought with such fantastic equipment and elan. Rest easy grandfathers.

RépondreSupprimer...enjoyed Neil...and twice!
SupprimerPoor people of Verdun! So many tragic battles in WW1 :(
RépondreSupprimerAgree...but History is made of such tragedies...
SupprimerVery nice and interesting battle report :)
RépondreSupprimerThe highlighted battle reminded me of one story I once heard and which took place in Galicia during WWI.
Small unit of Russian infantry was surrounded by an Austro-Hungarian unit in a building. As they were outnumbered and had no hope for help, the Russian unit surrendered. When they went out it appeared that both unit, Russian and Austro-Hungarian, were commanded by officers of Polish nationality.
After a few years, when the war was over and Poland regained independence they met again and became friends. One officer had a son, the other - a daughter and eventually they (children, not fathers) got married to each other, had children and spent lives together.
Sounds like a fairy tale, but I heard this from one of their descendants (great-grandson I think).
Worth a movie! What a beautiful story, humans are not completly lost! Thanks for this sunbeam koyoth...
Carlos
