Hello everyone,
A battle of encounter to finish the season ...
Small trip to the Grand Siècle ...

Militia and peasants, our first skeletal line ... they protect the meager victuals ... 1693 is a year of famine, every grain of wheat is a treasure to be preserved.

'Voyez-vous l'ennemi, monsieur?'
'Do you see the ennemy sir?'

'Here they are my general, British general seems to salute us, flags in the wind...'

The first exchanges are largely to our disadvantage ...

Cavaliers improvisés de notre côté.
Improvised cavalry on our side.

Contre unités de reconnaissance plus expérimentée...
Against more experimented skirmishers...

Situation au tour 2, vue du côté britannique.
2nd turn, from British side...

Submerged, our first line will be quickly destroyed by the English army.

The village is lost, but on the other side of the river we expect a gesture, an order.

A sign from the coach, and the attack order is given ...

Musketeers and grenadiers of the king charge ... They destroy the English right wing... but we lose the Gray Musketeers, decimated!

5th turn : the front is stabilized, and reinforcements arrived on both sides. Here the French ...

... Here a Scottish contingent ready to fight ...

Un progression freinée par des charges héroïques!
A progress hampered by heroic charges!

Arrival of the Bavarians on the battlefield to the sound of drums, fifes and ... guns.

Once behind the shelters, the Bavarians are dreadful and Ronni must retreat !

12th turn : heavy casualties on both sides but the French seem to have a slight advantage. To win however, we must charge with the "Maison du Roy".

Face to face very tight in the late afternoon.

But this time no sign from the coach.

Peur des boulets britanniques sans doute.
Fear of British cannonballs probably.

7 victory points against 7, the negotiations concluded in a draw .
Difficult to take the decision to commit the reserves on both sides
and thus risk defeat ...

That's it,  last battle of the season is finished,

and as I post on July 14, the conclusion has emerged ...

Feux d'artifice à Versailles.
Fireworks at Versailles.

So, this is how the season ends ... I will remain connected few days, then a
month away from the internet ... And after a season rich in views, comments,
links and '+1', I just wanted to say you a big ...

  24. Beautiful figures (I had to look three times at the first photo to confirm to myself that they weren't 28mm) and a very entertaining battle report.

I am looking forward to putting together what I assume is an Essex Miniatures coach myself, and hope that I can do it similar justice.

I remember many, many years ago painting up a Louis XIV army to play in a WRG 2nd Edition competition, finishing it the night before I was rather proud of my efforts. It did not do so well in the competition, but another player did make me an offer that was hard to refuse for it and the army did not come home with me.
